Tips for getting your daily cashback

Daily cashback searches, for products you are interested in, sometimes called recurring clicks or daily/paid clicks - with no obligation to purchase – are a great way to build up free cash through cashback sites.

These search sites can be used time and time again and as you'll see from the cashback site comparisons they can lead to a very tidy sum building up, especially if you join a few cashback sites.

However, there are some simple things you need to do so that you can maximise your daily cashback. Although the list looks long, once you are in the habit they will very soon become second nature.

If you haven't already done so, ensure your cashback can be tracked by the retailers and affiliate networks.

Carry out the required 'action'

For the price comparison sites such as Kelkoo, Dealtime, Buy Central, The Highstreet Web and ClickTo this means searching for a product (and for Dealtime clicking 'Compare Prices' if necessary) and then clicking through to a retailer. Your search words can be specific or more general and for all except The Highstreet Web and ClickTo you can also search using the categories on their sites. When searching on High Street Web make sure you also select 'All of Shopping' before you click 'search' unless the cashback site's conditions state the cashback is for a 'Web search'. It is worth using several search sites to compare product prices since they come up with different results and retailers.

Where2Search is not a price comparison site but is good for listing retailers not found on the other search sites as well as listing informational sites such as product review sites. It still requires you to conduct a search then click a result.

For SearchAnything Credit Cards if you don't get a pop-under window with the main page, you must click 'Go' next to the search box to get the pop-under window (which you can then ignore). Then you can click on one of the results displayed. You can click through to further results (10 per page) so that you see a variety of sites.

Use Carsource to search for secondhand cars. Start by clicking 'Used car search' on the landing page. To complete, click 'Submit' and proceed from there, finishing by clicking a result. It is not necessary to use all of the dropdown menus or any of the checkboxes on the second page.

For other cashback offers available, check the cashback site's instructions on how to complete the offer.

Variety is the spice

In order to get recurring cashback from these search sites, search for different products each time. Also, if you click the same retailer from these sites too often, it may result in some of your cashback not being credited to you by the search site.

However, it is fine to search for the same product on different search sites at the same time. In fact, this is a good idea since they all throw up different retailers and prices.

Take your time

Carrying out a search and clicking a result too quickly might seem suspicious (i.e., that you haven't been studying the results.) So, after searching for a product, you should leave it a few minutes before clicking through to a retailer. While you're waiting, carry out searches (for the same product) on other search sites offering cashback. Once you have results for all the searches, wait a few minutes and then click through to a retailer for each one.

Leave it open ... for a while

Again, closing down a retailer's window too quickly after clicking through to it might seem suspicious. Therefore, you should leave your browser windows open for a few minutes before closing them down so that the retailers are convinced you are studying the page.

Come again ... but not too soon

Don't visit a particular search site more than once (or click more than one result on the same site) during the same session. Either you will only be credited with one cashback or worse, you could be blocked for an indefinite period from earning cashback from that site. How do they know? Well, sites can track where searches are coming from through the unique IP address assigned to your computer or your home/office network.

So, wait at least 30 minutes before performing another search on any one particular search site.

However, before doing so...

Wipe away the crumbs

In order to get multiple daily cashback from these sites by going through several different cashback sites, it is important after every session to delete the cookies (small, harmless text files) that have gathered on your computer – see the instructions below.

If you don't do this, search sites can more easily check the cookie/s they set on your computer earlier and see you have made multiple visits during the day. This might lead to cashback from search sites being awarded to you less frequently. Note that these cookies are also saved on the website's server so clearing your cookies doesn't necessarily mean the frequency of your visits isn't still being tracked.

It isn't difficult to delete your cookies either automatically or manually. Just follow the instructions below for your specific browser. If using Mozilla Firefox or Opera, once you have changed the settings, all cookies will be automatically deleted from your computer when you close all your browser windows.

Internet Explorer 5 & 6

  1. Close all your Internet Explorer windows.
  2. Open Internet Explorer again.
  3. Select “Internet Options” from the 'Tools' menu.
  4. On the “General” tab, click “Delete Cookies”.
  5. Click “OK” and close the window.

Unfortunately, unlike Mozilla Firefox and Opera, it seems there is no way to delete cookies automatically when you exit Internet Explorer. This doesn't appear to have changed with the latest version 7 of Internet Explorer. However, it will be easier to delete cookies through a menu tool called 'Delete Browsing History'. IE7 is available from the Microsoft IE download page.

Mozilla Firefox

  1. Go to the "Tools" menu.
  2. Select "Options".
  3. Select the "Privacy" icon (and select the “Cookies” tab if necessary).
  4. On the “Keep Cookies:” drop-down menu select 'until I close Firefox'.
  5. Click "OK".

This will delete all your cookies in Firefox every time you close all your Firefox browser windows.

Opera

  1. Select "Preferences" from the 'Tools' menu.
  2. Click on the “Advanced tab” at the top of the window.
  3. Click "Cookies" in the menu on the left.
  4. Check the 'Delete new cookies when exiting Opera' box.
  5. Click "OK".

This will delete all your cookies in Opera every time you close all your Opera browser windows.

Important to note

If you visit other sites which rely on cookies to remember your preferences, then you may wish to install another browser to use only for your cashback activity. As you've probably guessed, I think Firefox and Opera are two good ones. Download them by clicking the links below.

Bear in mind that some retailers, affiliate networks and cashback sites are slower than others in reporting cashback. However, if you are not being credited with the cashback you expect, you could use the Help/FAQ sections of the cashback sites or, particularly for retailer-specific guidance, you can search (or post a question in) the site's forums. Note: For many of the forums you use the same username and password as you do for the cashback site but a few do require you to register for the forum separately.

Remember that you can also top up your cashback balances with other No Purchase Offers.
